Videos: Pulp Fiction & Reservoir Dogs

Say what you will about Quentin Tarantino and his movies, but he and Karyn Rachtman (his music supervisor) seem to have an encyclopedic knowledge of music and have a real knack for picking the absolute perfect song for scenes. And he reclaims the songs so that whenever you hear them again, you immediately think of those specific scenes. I always get a little on edge whenever I hear "Stuck In the Middle With You" ever since I first saw Reservoir Dogs.

I'm a big fan of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack too - "Misirlou," "Jungle Boogie," "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon." Rachtman has the best job ever.

Yeah, that soundtrack is great. I love that the movie starts out with "Misirlou" and "Jungle Boogie" in the opening credits. It's awesome.

My favorite Tarantino soundtrack, though, is Kill Bill Vol. 1. With The RZA helping out, that thing is unstoppable.

Totally. Kill Bill 1-2 have great soundtracks. Remember that scene in vol. 2 when Uma gets buried alive? When I saw it in the theater, at the exact moment she went underground the screen went completely black (while the audio continued to play). The audience - thinking this was Taranino at his edgiest - watched the black screen for a good 5 minutes (through the entire coffee shop scene) before an usher came in to tell us the projector was broken and our tickets were being refunded!

The RZA is featured in one of the strangest, most hilarious NPR interviews ever. The host has no idea what to make of him (or how to talk to him). Worth checking out, if you haven't already.

That interview is awesome. I've never heard it before. Thanks for the heads up.

That's a hilarious movie story. I never had anything quite like that happen to me. Although one time the fire alarms went off in the middle of a movie (don't remember which one) and we all got passes. The best part was our movie was pretty much over and we used passes to get in (instead of paying for tix) so the next time we went we saw a different movie. We pretty much got to see 2 movies for free. It was great.
